Gemini (May 21 – June 20) is Mutable Air, the late-Spring sign of duality, communication, and the restless movement of intellect between polarities.

• Symbol: The Twins — Castor and Pollux of Greek myth, one mortal, one divine, alternating between Olympus and the underworld — encode the Geminian reality that the mind exists between worlds, never fully at home in either. There are always two voices, two perspectives, two possible paths
• Glyph: Two vertical lines joined by cross-bars — the Roman numeral II, the primordial dyad: subject and object, speaker and listener, consciousness splitting into two and asking what is the relationship between these things
• Character: Communicator, wit, perpetual student — curious, adaptable, quick, chronically of two minds; genuinely interested in everything, deeply committed to nothing for long

• Mercury rules because Mercury governs thought, language, perception, and the movement of information between points — where Virgo uses the mercurial faculty for analysis, Gemini uses it for pure circulation: collecting, connecting, relaying, and recombining ideas
• No exaltation because Gemini is constitutionally plural and kinetic; exaltation means a planet reaching its highest, most singular expression, but any planet that became too settled here would stop being Geminian — the sign exists to keep things moving, not to elevate any single principle to its peak

Thoth Tarot: Gemini is attributed to The Lovers (VI), the Hermetic Marriage — the alchemical union of opposites under the Sword's arch. The card is not called The Lovers because Gemini is romantic, but because it is the sign of duality seeking resolution: the unification of opposites through the mediating principle of Mind. The Sword descends between the royal couple not to separate but to consummate their union through discriminating intelligence.

Jungian Meaning: The archetype here is the Trickster-Messenger — the figure who stands at the boundary between established categories, not quite divine or mortal, not quite honest or deceptive, not quite serious or frivolous. Gemini is the thinking function in its most agile mode: the mind that sees both sides of every question but struggles to commit to either. Mutable Air produces a consciousness that is fundamentally connective — adapting, bridging, dissolving fixed positions. Its job is to link, translate, and transmit, not to judge or decide. The Trickster fits because Gemini's psychological home is the liminal space where identity is fluid and the rules of one realm do not yet apply to the next.
