生命之树路径 26摩羯座火星土星

希伯来字母 · Ayin (ע) - Meaning: "Eye"

画面与符号

山羊与强烈的生命符号呈现物质、欲望和创造冲动。

英文原文 · English source

The Thoth Devil is not the fiendish, medieval Christian caricature. It is a representation of Pan Pangenetor (the All-Begetter) and creative energy in its most material, robust form.

  • The Himalayan Goat: The central figure is the Himalayan goat, leaping with lust upon the summits of the earth. This represents the sign of Capricornus (the Goat), which occupies the Zenith of the Zodiac and is the most exalted of the signs.
  • The Eye of Pan: In the very center of the goat's forehead is an open eye. This relates directly to the Hebrew letter Ayin (meaning "Eye").
  • The Wand of the Chief Adept: The goat's creative energy is veiled in the symbol of the Wand of the Chief Adept, which is crowned with the winged globe and the twin serpents of Horus and Osiris.
  • The Background of Madness: The Tree of Life is seen against a background of exquisitely tenuous, complex, and fantastic forms of madness. This represents the "divine madness of spring" (as the Sun turns northwards upon entering Capricorn at the Winter Solstice).
  • The Transparent Tree: The roots of the Tree of Life are made transparent in order to show the innumerable leapings of the sap (the life force rising).
  • The Trunk Piercing the Heavens: The trunk of the Tree pierces the heavens, and about it is indicated the ring of the body of Nuith (the starry sky).
  • The Shaft Piercing the Earth: Similarly, the shaft of the Wand goes down indefinitely to the center of the earth, symbolizing the formula: "If I droop down mine head, and shoot forth venom, then is rapture of the earth, and I and the earth are one."

秘传含义

对应摩羯座与 Ayin,连接美和荣耀。原作强调生命力与物质形态,并非只将其解释为邪恶。

英文原文 · English source

The Devil card represents the impulse to create, which takes no account of reason, custom, or foresight. Because Capricorn is ruled by Saturn (the Lord of Time and structure) and exalts Mars (fiery energy), this card shows the fiery, material energy of creation in its best form. It is divinely unscrupulous and sublimely careless of result, embodying the Thelemic law: "thou hast no right but to do thy will... For pure will, unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result, is every way perfect."

Crowley links this card to the formula of the male creative energy (Yod) and the finding of ecstasy in every phenomenon, however naturally repugnant. He points out that the word "Devil" comes from the same root as the gods of light, but was degraded by "the Black Lodge" (orthodox religion) into a senile and fiendish symbol to suppress the natural, vital urges of humanity. The formula of this card is the complete appreciation of all existing things; he rejoices in the rugged and the barren no less than in the smooth and the fertile.

荣格视角

象征被排斥的本能和阴影。看清依附与投射,使人更有能力选择,而不是被冲动支配。

英文原文 · English source

The Devil is the archetype of the Chthonic (Earthly) Life Force, the Pan figure, and the unbridled Libido. The goat leaping on the mountain peaks represents the raw, physical drive for achievement and sensory experience.

The Christian "Devil" is psychologically understood as the Shadow—the repository of all the sexual and aggressive drives that society deems unacceptable. However, Crowley's Pan represents a healthier, pre-Christian psychological state. The Eye in the center of the forehead represents the "third eye" of consciousness awakening within the animal nature, not suppressing it.

Psychologically, to encounter The Devil is to confront your own biological reality and deepest, unrefined desires. The "madness" in the background warns that if these forces are repressed, they will erupt as pathology. But if the Ego can harness this Saturnian structure and Martian energy (the Wand of the Chief Adept), it can utilize this "unscrupulous" creative power to achieve massive practical success in the material world. The Devil teaches the Ego to stop apologizing for its physical existence and its desire to dominate the summit of its own life.

The Hebrew letter Ayin, meaning "Eye," is the organ of sight — but here it is the Eye placed in the forehead of the goat, looking out from within the body rather than down upon it from above. In Jungian terms, Ayin represents the achievement of consciousness within the instincts rather than against them. Most spiritual traditions treat the body and its desires as obstacles to be overcome; the Eye of Pan insists that awareness can awaken at the very heart of animal nature. This is what Jung meant when he said that the Shadow, once confronted and integrated, becomes a source of vitality rather than shame. The Eye does not tame the goat — it sees through it, sees as it.

Capricorn, ruled by Saturn with Mars exalted, is the most concentrated, ambitious, and materially powerful sign. In Jungian terms, Saturn represents the structure principle — the bones of the psyche, the non-negotiable framework upon which everything else hangs. Mars exalted adds fierce, directed energy to this structure. Together, they produce the archetype of the individual who achieves worldly mastery through relentless discipline and an absolute refusal to be distracted by sentimentality. The shadow of this combination is cold ruthlessness — the willingness to sacrifice anything (relationships, health, ethics) to reach the summit. Capricorn at its best is the mountain goat who climbs to the zenith; at its worst, it is the tyrant who mistakes the summit for the whole of reality.

Path 26, connecting Tiphareth (Beauty, the integrated Self) to Hod (Splendour, the rational intellect), reveals the Devil as the force that drags the integrated personality back into contact with the raw, material, physical dimension of existence. Tiphareth is the Sun — warm, balanced, spiritual; Hod is Mercury — quick, analytical, abstracting. Between them, the Devil inserts the body: the irreducible, unkillable, desiring animal that neither the Self's spiritual vision nor the intellect's rational schemes can fully account for. This path teaches that any model of the psyche that does not include the full, unapologetic reality of physical desire is incomplete — and that the "mirth" Crowley attributes to this card is the laughter of the body at the pretensions of the mind.
