The number Nine (Yesod) inevitably brings back the balance of Force in fulfilment. The card is ruled by Venus in Virgo. It shows good luck attending material affairs, favour and popularity.
- The Three Central Disks: An equilateral triangle of three, apex upward, close together — the original established Word, the creative triad in its material perfection.
- The Six Surrounding Disks: Surrounded at some distance by a ring of six larger disks in the form of a hexagon. This signifies the multiplication of the original established Word by the mingling of good luck and good management.
- The Degradation from Whirling to Coin: The three central disks retain their magical pattern (as in earlier cards), but the others — since the descent into matter implies the gradual exhaustion of the original whirling energy — now take on the form of coins. The multiplication of a symbol of Energy always tends to degrade its essential meaning.

The Nine of Disks is called Gain. Venus in Virgo shows good luck attending material affairs. The card represents the fullest practical development of the force of Earth — the best that can be obtained from the material world, regarded from a practical and material standpoint.
The multiplication of the original Word by good fortune and good management produces genuine material abundance — but the gradual transformation of the magical disks into mere coins warns that the spiritual dimension of material success tends to be lost as success multiplies.

The Nine of Disks represents the archetype of Material Abundance — the fullest, most complete, and most satisfying expression of the Earth element in practical terms. This is the card of genuine material well-being: not merely survival, not merely security, but prosperity — the experience of having more than enough, of being favoured by circumstances, of reaping the harvest of sustained effort.
In Jungian terms, the Nine of Disks is the sensation function operating at its highest practical capacity. The individual has achieved a relationship with the material world that is both productive and pleasurable: they know how to work, how to manage, how to invest, and their efforts are rewarded by fortune as well as by skill. The three central disks retaining their magical pattern while the surrounding six become coins captures a subtle psychological truth: at the core of genuine prosperity is a living, creative relationship with matter, but as wealth multiplies, it tends to become abstract — numbers in an account rather than the sacred, whirling energy it once was.
As the Yesod (Foundation) card of the Disks suit, the Nine represents Earth grounded in the unconscious foundation of the psyche. In Jungian terms, Yesod in Earth is the point where material well-being has become structural — absorbed into the personality's foundation as a stable, reliable sense of physical security and abundance. The individual no longer worries about material needs (the Five's anxiety is completely resolved) but experiences prosperity as a natural, foundational state of being.
Venus in Virgo combines the principle of beauty, pleasure, and attraction with the meticulous, service-oriented, harvest-gathering quality of the earth sign. In Jungian terms, Venus provides the Eros dimension: the capacity to enjoy material abundance, to find beauty in practical things, to experience work itself as a form of love. Virgo provides the discrimination and modesty that prevent enjoyment from becoming excess — the individual appreciates what they have, manages it carefully, and shares it generously without squandering it. The "good luck and good management" Crowley identifies are the two components of genuine prosperity: grace (Venus) and skill (Virgo).
The Nine of Disks in psychological work signals a moment of genuine material prosperity and well-being — the harvest of sustained effort, blessed by good fortune. Enjoy it wisely.
