The Prince of Disks represents the airy part of Earth, indicating the florescence and fructification of that element. The figure is meditative — he is the element of Earth become intelligible.
- The Bull-Crowned Helmet and Ox-Drawn Chariot: His helmet is crowned with the head of a bull, and his chariot is drawn by an ox — this animal being peculiarly sacred to the Element of Earth. The bull represents the fertility and stubborn power of Taurus.
- The Globe with Mathematical Symbols: In his left hand he holds his disk, which is an orb resembling a globe marked with mathematical symbols, as if to imply the planning involved in agriculture — Earth made intelligible through thought.
- The Orbed Sceptre with the Cross: In his right hand he bears an orbed sceptre surmounted by a cross, a symbol of the Great Work accomplished — his function is to bring forth from the material of the element that vegetation which is the sustenance of the Spirit itself.
- The Light Armour and Meditative Posture: Clothed in light armour, his bearing is contemplative rather than aggressive — he is the thinker of the Earth suit, not its warrior.

The Prince of Disks represents the airy part of Earth. He rules from the 20th degree of Aries to the 20th degree of Taurus. As the Vau of the Tetragrammaton in the suit of Disks, he is the intellectual projection of the material element — Earth that has become conscious of itself.
The character denoted by this card is that of great energy brought to bear upon the most solid of practical matters. He is energetic and enduring, a capable manager, a steadfast and persevering worker. He is competent, ingenious, thoughtful, cautious, trustworthy, imperturbable; he constantly seeks new uses for common things and adapts his circumstances to his purposes in a slow, steady, well-thought-out plan.
He is lacking almost entirely in emotion. He may often appear stupid, and is inclined to be resentful of more spiritual types. He is slow to anger, but if driven, becomes implacable.
In the Yi King, the airy part of Earth is represented by the 53rd hexagram, Kien (Gradual Progress). The commentary concerns the flight of wild geese gradually approaching — symbolizing slow, steady emancipation from repressive conditions.

英文原文 · English source
The Prince of Disks embodies the archetype of the Practical Philosopher — the figure who brings intellectual understanding (Air) to bear upon material reality (Earth), not to escape it but to cultivate it more effectively. He is Earth become intelligible — matter that has developed the capacity to reflect upon itself and plan its own transformation.
In Jungian terms, the Prince represents the thinking function operating within the domain of sensation and material reality: the capacity to analyze, plan, and systematically improve one's relationship with the physical world. The mathematical symbols on his globe show Earth made legible — the farmer who understands soil chemistry, the craftsman who understands materials science, the manager who understands systems. His contemplative posture distinguishes him from the Knight's raw labour: he does not merely work but thinks about work, finding "new uses for common things."
The shadow is emotional impoverishment: "lacking almost entirely in emotion." In Jungian terms, this is the individual whose thinking function has so thoroughly colonized the material domain that feeling, intuition, and the inner life have been crowded out entirely. The world is reduced to a problem to be solved, and the soul's needs are treated as inefficiencies to be eliminated.
As the Airy part of Earth and the letter Vau of the Tetragrammaton in the Disks suit, the Prince represents thought (Air) operating within matter (Earth). Vau is the Nail — the connector — and the Prince's function is to connect the Knight's raw productive energy and the Queen's nurturing receptivity into a coherent, intelligible system. In Jungian terms, he is the logos principle applied to the material world: the capacity to perceive order in nature and to work with that order rather than against it. The sceptre with the cross represents the Great Work accomplished — the recognition that the cultivation of the material world is itself a spiritual act.
His zodiacal range — 20° Aries to 20° Taurus — straddles the most initiating, fiery sign (Aries) and the most stable, earthy sign (Taurus). Aries' final decan contributes a hidden dynamism and initiative beneath the stolid exterior; Taurus' first two decans contribute the patience, sensuality, and aesthetic appreciation that transform mere productivity into craftsmanship. Together they produce the individual who combines Aries' drive with Taurus' staying power — the slow, steady, unstoppable force that achieves through persistence what brilliance cannot. The Yi King's hexagram Kien (Gradual Progress) — wild geese gradually approaching the shore — perfectly captures this archetype: progress that appears imperceptible in the moment but, measured over time, amounts to a complete transformation of conditions.
The Prince of Disks in psychological work signals a moment for methodical, patient, intelligent engagement with practical reality — the time to plan carefully, work steadily, and trust that slow progress is real progress.
