英文原文 · English source

The Princess of Disks, the last of the Court Cards, represents the earthy part of Earth. She is consequently on the brink of transfiguration. She is strong and beautiful, with an expression of intense brooding, as if about to become aware of a secret wonder.

  • The Ram-Crested Head: Her crest is the head of the ram — Aries, the sign of the New Year, the explosive rebirth that awaits at the very bottom of the descent into matter.
  • The Sceptre Descending into Earth as Diamond: Her sceptre descends into the earth, where its head becomes a diamond — the precious stone of Kether, symbolizing the birth of the highest and purest light in the deepest and darkest of the Elements.
  • The Grove of Sacred Trees and the Altar: She stands within a grove of sacred trees before an altar suggesting a wheat-sheaf, for she is a priestess of Demeter. She bears within her body the secret of the future.
  • The Disk with the Chinese Twin-Spiral: The disk she bears contains the Chinese ideogram denoting the twin spiral force of Creation in perfect equilibrium — the yin-yang from which is born the rose of Isis, the great fertile Mother.

The Princess of Disks represents the earthy part of Earth. As the final Heh of the Tetragrammaton in the suit of Disks — and the very last of all the Court Cards — she represents the ultimate materialization of the creative cycle and simultaneously its point of transfiguration.

Her sceptre descending into the earth and becoming a diamond — the stone of Kether — symbolizes the profound doctrine that the descent into matter immediately sparks the ascent back to spirit. She is the priestess of Demeter, bearing within her body the secret of the future.

In the Yi King, the earthy part of Earth is represented by the 52nd hexagram, Kan (The Mountain, Keeping Still). The mountain is the most sacred of all terrestrial symbols — stark, rugged, and immovable in its aspiration to the Highest, thrust up as it is by the Titan energy of Hidden Fire.

荣格视角

以“圆盘公主”为线索,观察当前经验中的资源、身体与现实条件。区分象征引发的联想与实际事实,并结合具体问题理解它。原作的详细荣格分析保留在下方。

英文原文 · English source

The Princess of Disks embodies the archetype of Matter on the Brink of Transfiguration — the most material, most dense, most earthly expression of psychic energy, at the precise moment when its descent reaches bottom and the ascent begins. She is the coal becoming diamond, the seed breaking the soil, the body becoming the temple.

In Jungian terms, the Princess represents the sensation function at its absolute ground — the point where physical reality is experienced so fully, so intensely, and so nakedly that it becomes numinous. The "expression of intense brooding, as if about to become aware of a secret wonder" is the psychological experience of matter becoming conscious of itself: the moment when the individual who has been entirely absorbed in physical existence suddenly perceives the sacred within the mundane.

The sceptre becoming a diamond in the earth is one of the most profound symbols in the entire Thoth deck. In Jungian terms, Kether (the highest) manifesting as a diamond in the depths of Earth (the lowest) corresponds to the Self appearing in the most unlikely, most material, most despised place. This is the psychological recognition that Jung considered the crown of the individuation process: the discovery that the divine is not above but within and below — that the body, the earth, the physical world, far from being the prison of spirit, is its most intimate dwelling.

As the Earthy part of Earth and the final Heh of the Tetragrammaton — not only of the Disks suit but of the entire system — the Princess represents the absolute completion of the creative cycle's descent into matter. In Jungian terms, this is the ultimate coniunctio oppositorum: the point where the highest and lowest, spirit and matter, Kether and Malkuth, are revealed as identical. The Chinese twin-spiral (yin-yang) on her disk is the symbol of this identity: the two forces of creation in perfect equilibrium, each containing the seed of the other.

The Princess has no zodiacal attribution — she rules a quadrant of the Heavens outside the zodiac. But her ram crest connects her to Aries — the sign of explosive new beginnings. In Jungian terms, this reveals the secret at the heart of the Princess: she is simultaneously the end and the beginning, the last card of the Earthly descent and the first spark of the next spiritual ascent. The Yi King's hexagram Kan (The Mountain, Keeping Still) describes her perfectly: the mountain is the most material of all symbols, yet it aspires — its stillness is not death but the gathering of the enormous, hidden, volcanic energy that will eventually thrust it toward the sky.

The Princess of Disks in psychological work signals the moment when the material world — the body, the work, the daily routine — begins to reveal its sacred dimension. It is the invitation to find the diamond in the earth, the Self in the body, the eternal in the immediate.
