The Princess of Wands represents the earthy part of Fire — one might say she is the fuel of Fire. This expression implies the irresistible chemical attraction of the combustible substance. She is leaping in a surging flame which recalls by its shape the letter Yod.
- The Plumes of Justice: From her brow stream plumes like flames, signifying that even in the most primal and material expression of Fire, there is a fierce, innate justice — an absolute refusal to compromise with anything that does not burn true.
- Her Nakedness: She is unclothed, showing that chemical action can only take place when the element is perfectly free to combine with its partner. There is no armour, no mediation, no restraint — she is pure availability to the transformative act.
- The Solar Wand: She bears a wand crowned with the disk of the Sun, connecting her to the ultimate source of all fire and light. Though she is the most material of the Wands court, her wand points directly back to the origin.
- The Golden Altar with Ram's Heads: She is in attendance upon a golden altar ornamented with ram's heads, symbolizing the fires of Spring — Aries, the initial explosive burst of the zodiacal year. She is the virgin priestess of the Lords of Fire.
- The Yod-Shaped Flame: The surging flame in which she leaps recalls the letter Yod, the seminal spark — the smallest letter of the Hebrew alphabet, yet the one from which all others are said to derive. She is the seed of Fire made manifest.

The Princess of Wands represents the earthy part of Fire. In the Tetragrammaton, the Princesses correspond to the final Heh — the ultimate issue of the original Energy in its completion, its crystallization, its materialization. They also represent the counterbalancing, the reabsorption of the Energy. They represent the Silence into which all things return. They are thus at the same time permanent and nonexistent.
The Princesses have no zodiacal attribution; instead, they rule one quadrant of the Heavens around the North Pole. Yet they represent a distinct type of human being — those numerous elemental people whom we recognize by their lack of all sense of responsibility, whose moral qualities seem to lack bite.
The character of the Princess is extremely individual. She is brilliant and daring. She creates her own beauty by her essential vigour and energy. The force of her character imposes the impression of beauty upon the beholder. In anger or love she is sudden, violent, and implacable. She consumes all that comes into her sphere. She is ambitious and aspiring, full of enthusiasm which is often irrational. She never forgives an injury, and the only quality of patience to be found in her is the patience with which she lies in ambush to avenge.
Ill-dignified, she shows the defects of these qualities. She is superficial and theatrical, completely shallow and false, yet without suspecting that she is anything of the sort, for she believes entirely in herself even when it is apparent to the most ordinary observer that she is merely in the spasm of a mood. She is cruel, unreliable, faithless, and domineering.
In the Yi King, the earthy part of Fire is described by the 27th hexagram, I (Nourishment). It shows a person omnivorous in passion of whatever kind, entirely reckless in the means of obtaining gratification, and insatiable.

The Princess of Wands embodies the archetype of the Kore — the Divine Maiden — in her most fierce and untamed aspect. She is not the passive maiden awaiting rescue but the wild, consuming flame-girl who devours experience with an appetite that knows no moderation.
In Jungian terms, the Princess represents the psychic function at the threshold between the unconscious and physical reality. She is Fire at the moment it catches — the instant when an abstract desire or creative impulse ignites into concrete action. Her nakedness signifies the total absence of psychological defences: there is no persona, no carefully constructed self-image mediating between the inner fire and the outer world. What she feels, she is, immediately and completely.
This makes her both extraordinarily vital and extraordinarily dangerous. The brilliance and daring that "create their own beauty" correspond to what Jung described as the numinous quality of the archetype when it first breaks through into consciousness — it is experienced as irresistibly attractive, almost divine. But the shadow is equally extreme: because she is wholly identified with whatever mood possesses her ("merely in the spasm of a mood"), she has no reflective distance. She cannot distinguish between authentic passion and passing inflation. The "patience with which she lies in ambush to avenge" reveals the dark side of this total identification — when wounded, the injury is experienced as absolute, and the response is equally absolute.
As the Earthy part of Fire and the final Heh of the Tetragrammaton in the Wands suit, the Princess represents creative energy in its most material, embodied, and irreversible form. The final Heh is the Daughter — the point where the creative cycle completes itself by becoming flesh. In Jungian terms, she is the moment when a psychic impulse stops being an idea, a feeling, or even an intention, and becomes a fact — an irreversible action in the physical world. Her nakedness (the absence of all armour and persona) corresponds to this finality: once the Princess acts, there is no taking it back, no diplomatic cover, no retreat into abstraction. The Yod-shaped flame she leaps within recalls the Knight's initial spark, but here it has descended all the way into matter — the seed has become the combustion.
The Princess has no zodiacal attribution — she rules a quadrant of the Heavens around the North Pole, outside the zodiac entirely. Psychologically, this means she exists outside the ordered cycles of the personality's development. She is the wild card, the elemental eruption that cannot be predicted by any natal chart or developmental theory. The Yi King's hexagram I (Nourishment) — describing "a person omnivorous in passion of whatever kind, entirely reckless in the means of obtaining gratification, and insatiable" — captures her psychological essence with startling precision. She is appetite incarnate, and appetite does not negotiate.
The Princess of Wands in psychological work signals raw creative and erotic energy that demands expression — but warns that without the development of a witnessing consciousness, this energy will cycle endlessly between infatuation and revenge, creation and destruction.
