The Queen of Disks represents the watery part of Earth — the function of that element as Mother. She represents passivity, usually in its highest aspect.
- The Throne of Vegetation: The Queen is throned upon the life of vegetation. She contemplates a background where a calm river winds through a sandy desert to bring to it fertility — oases are beginning to show themselves amid the wastes.
- The Goat upon the Sphere: Before her stands a goat upon a sphere — a reference to the dogma that the Great Work is fertility. The goat of Capricorn, balanced upon the globe of the earth.
- The Scale-Mail of Coins: Her armour is composed of small scales or coins — the material substance that is her element, worn as protection and adornment.
- The Spiral-Horned Helmet: Her helmet is adorned with the great spiral horns of the markhor — the wild goat of the mountains, connecting her to the heights even as she sits upon the fertile plain.
- The Sceptre with the Cube and Hexagram: In her right hand she bears a sceptre surmounted by a cube within which is a three-dimensional hexagram — the Great Work accomplished in material form.
- The Disk of Interlaced Loops: In her left arm is curved her proper disk, a sphere of loops and circles interlaced — representing the ambition of matter to take part in the great work of Creation.

The Queen of Disks represents the watery part of Earth. She rules from the 20th degree of Sagittarius to the 20th degree of Capricorn. As the first Heh of the Tetragrammaton in the suit of Disks, she is the receptive, nurturing, sustaining function within the material element.
Persons signified by this card possess the finest of the quieter qualities. They are ambitious but only in useful directions. They possess immense funds of affection, kindness, and greatness of heart. They are not intellectual and not particularly intelligent, but instinct and intuition are more than adequate for their needs. These people are quiet, hard-working, practical, sensible, domesticated, often — in a reticent and unassuming fashion — lustful and even debauched. They are inclined to the abuse of alcohol and of drugs. It is as if they could only realize their essential happiness by getting outside themselves.
In the Yi King, the watery part of Earth is represented by the 31st hexagram, Hsien (Influence). The general advice is to go forward quietly, without overt attack upon existing situations.

英文原文 · English source
The Queen of Disks embodies the archetype of the Earth Mother — the psychic function of nurture, sustenance, and the patient transformation of barren conditions into fertile ones. She is the calm river winding through the desert, bringing life where there was none — the capacity within the psyche to nourish growth through quiet, persistent, practical love.
In Jungian terms, the Queen represents the feeling function operating within the most material domain: the capacity to create emotional warmth, physical comfort, and practical security for others without intellectual pretension or dramatic display. Her throne upon vegetation and her contemplation of the oases emerging from the desert show the slow, patient work of emotional cultivation — she does not create life from nothing but creates the conditions in which life can emerge on its own.
The shadow is the tendency to lose herself in sensation: "inclined to the abuse of alcohol and of drugs — it is as if they could only realize their essential happiness by getting outside themselves." In Jungian terms, this is the individual whose connection to the body and to material pleasure is so intense that it becomes an escape from the inner life — the Earth Mother who nurtures everyone else but cannot nourish her own soul.
As the Watery part of Earth and the first Heh of the Tetragrammaton in the Disks suit, the Queen represents receptivity (Water) within the domain of matter (Earth). In Jungian terms, she is the instinctual wisdom of the body — the knowing that resides not in the mind but in the hands, the womb, the gut. Water in Earth is the underground river, the aquifer, the hidden moisture that sustains the roots of everything that grows on the surface. Her wisdom is not articulated but demonstrated: she shows rather than tells, does rather than explains.
Her zodiacal range — 20° Sagittarius to 20° Capricorn — straddles the most philosophical, aspiring sign (Sagittarius) and the most ambitious, structured sign (Capricorn). Sagittarius' final decan contributes a hidden spiritual idealism and a sense of larger purpose that grounds her material activities in meaning; Capricorn's first two decans contribute the ambition, discipline, and organizational capacity that allow her nurturing instincts to produce tangible, lasting results. Together they produce the individual who builds not merely for comfort but for legacy — the matriarch whose practical accomplishments are expressions of a deeper vision. The Yi King's hexagram Hsien (Influence) confirms her method: she operates not by force but by influence, by the quiet, persistent shaping of conditions that gradually brings her vision into reality.
The Queen of Disks in psychological work signals a moment for practical nurture — tending the body, the home, the material foundations of life — with the awareness that these material acts are themselves a form of spiritual practice.
