英文原文 · English source

This card is ruled by Chokmah in the Element of Air. The purity and exaltation of Chokmah are such that this card manifests the very best idea possible to the suit. The energy abides above the onslaught of disruption.

  • The Two Crossed Swords: Two swords crossed — the fundamental duality of the intellect expressed in its most harmonious form. The crossing is not conflict but balance: thesis and antithesis held in equilibrium.
  • The Blue Rose with Five Petals: The swords are united by a blue rose with five petals. This rose represents the influence of the Mother (Binah), whose harmonizing influence compounds the latent antagonism native to the suit. The rose is the heart's peace that binds the warring blades.
  • The White Rays in Geometric Pattern: The Rose emits white rays, producing a geometrical pattern that emphasizes the equilibrium of the symbol — thought organized into beauty.

英文原文 · English source

The Two of Swords is called Peace. This suit, governing all intellectual manifestations, is always complicated and disordered — subject to change as is no other suit. It represents a general shaking-up resulting from the conflict of Fire and Water in their marriage. But the purity and exaltation of Chokmah are such that this card manifests the very best idea possible to the suit.

The Moon in Libra: the Moon is change, but Nature is peaceful; moreover Libra represents balance. Between them they regulate the energy of the Swords. The comparative calm is a product of the highest possible source, uncontaminated by the disruptions that plague the lower cards.

英文原文 · English source

The Two of Swords represents the archetype of Mental Equilibrium — the rare psychological state in which the mind achieves genuine peace through the perfect balancing of its own contradictions. Unlike the stillness of suppression or the numbness of avoidance, this is the active, dynamic peace of a mind that holds all its opposing ideas in conscious tension without collapsing into one side or the other.

In Jungian terms, this is the transcendent function operating within the thinking domain: the capacity to entertain contradictory ideas simultaneously without the Ego being torn apart by the conflict. The blue rose uniting the crossed swords is the symbol of the heart mediating between the warring intellects — the recognition that true mental peace requires not the triumph of one position over another but the synthesis that transcends both.

As the Chokmah (Wisdom) card of the Swords suit, the Two represents the first real manifestation of Air — the moment when the abstract capacity for thought (the Ace) crystallizes into a definite mental state. In Jungian terms, Chokmah in Air is the initial flash of understanding — not the aggressive analysis of the Knight but the quiet, clear perception that sees the whole picture at once. Chokmah is "uncontaminated by any influence," meaning the mental peace expressed here is pristine — not yet disturbed by the complications, doubts, and conflicts that will plague the lower cards. It is thought at the moment of its purest expression: luminous, balanced, and whole.

Moon in Libra combines the reflective, receptive, ever-changing quality of the Moon with the equilibrating, beauty-seeking, justice-oriented quality of Libra. In Jungian terms, the Moon contributes the unconscious dimension to this mental peace — it is not achieved by the Ego's deliberate effort but received as a gift from the deeper layers of the psyche. Libra contributes the aesthetic dimension: this peace is not merely logical but beautiful, not merely correct but harmonious. The Moon changes, but Libra balances — together they produce a state of mind that flows naturally from one insight to the next without the jarring transitions that characterize less integrated thinking.

The Two of Swords in psychological work signals a moment of genuine mental clarity and peace — the mind operating at its best, holding complexity without confusion. It is the ideal state from which to make decisions, form judgments, and perceive truth.
